Attached file ff_crash.log

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/89.0.4389.72 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Firefox behaving this way all of a sudden after PC reboot.

Actual results:

Firefox shows blank page, and doesn't respond to normal navigation. I can't visit any page (including about:*).

So far, I've: deleted the ~/.mozilla directory; downloaded fresh version of both 86 and 87 developer editions; restarted with addons disabled; and various combinations thereof.

I'm on Linux Mint 64-bit, latest version.

Firefox is completely unusable for me now. And I think it started with my rebooting my PC (which I've done multiple times so far).

Behaviour looks very much like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/a5qru6/firefox_64_opens_blank_tab_and_crashes/.

Expected results:

Normal browsing expected.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Toolkit::Add-ons Manager' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hello,

I’m from QA and I’m attempting to confirm this issue, but there is not much information to go about at this moment.

However, I will involve Shane, who might have some more insight into the issue and can make more sense of the crash log than myself.

Thank you!

Thanks. If it helps, I can't launch tor browser either, which potentially signals that something is wrong with the common user space libs that both of these browsers use.

I'm happy to run any diagnostics tools for you.

Doesn't look related to addons.

I had a problem with the same symptoms, affecting multiple profiles on multiple user accounts on the same machine, while a seemingly identical installation of Firefox on the same version of Linux Mint on a different machine was unaffected. It has continued for me from Firefox 86 through to Firefox 88.

Then I found this report on the Citrix forums that gave me a clue that it could be related to an installation of Citrix's Workspace App software: https://discussions.citrix.com/topic/412914-firefox-stopped-working-after-workplace-app-installation/

I uninstalled the Citrix icaclient package (specifically 21.01) and Firefox started working again. I don't know if the reporter also uses this package but if not there may be other plugins that cause Firefox to hang in the same way. I've now installed the most recent 21.04 version of the package and it hasn't yet caused problems in Firefox.

If someone wants to try to recreate this issue, the troublesome version of Citrix Workspace App is available here: https://www.citrix.com/en-gb/downloads/workspace-app/legacy-workspace-app-for-linux/workspace-app-for-linux-2101.html

Wow, now that you mention it, I had Citrix installed for work, too! It didn't occur to me that this could be related to to Citrix at all, so I didn't experiment with its (un|re)installation.

The story went even weirder for me from there: one day I couldn't reboot into Linux - it was stuck at grub. I had no choice but to re-install. I can't tell if it's related or just happenstance, either.

I realize this isn't the right forum, but from what I can tell, recent Citrix releases haven't been playing nicely with Linux.

Hey Jeenu,
Are we still looking into a Firefox issue here or it was a problem with Citrix that a new release fixed, based on Comment 5? We should close this ticket if it is not relevant anymore.
Thanks!

I did reinstall Citrix, and things appear to be normal so far.

Since I don't have this issue outstanding, I won't be able to offer any pertinent information on the bug, so might as well close it.
