Hey Gijs, did you have a pre-existing bug for the about:settings alias?
I have https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D106199 / bug 1694511 for the window title and other references, but so far I decided not to change the actual URL because it would involve potentially updating a lot of tests, and because the "redirect about:preferences to about:settings" idea is not as straightforward as it sounds - it'd involve writing some C++ code to accomplish the redirect (there's no obvious equivalent to a http 301 or whatever for about: pages), we'd need to make sure that hash/ref links are handled correctly, the back button doesn't break, etc. I'm open to reconsidering that later in the 89 cycle if we have time, but it doesn't seem essential right now - the URL has always been "preferences" even when on Windows (90% of our users) we called it "Options", so it doesn't really seem like something we need to address right now.
We can morph this bug to only be about the URL and link it up. If docshell folks have time to take a stab at that, I'd be happy to review changes, but I'm too swamped to do it myself atm.
