User Story
As a product manager, I want to understand how users are segmented per screen resolution, text scaling and DPI scaling. Acceptance criteria: - Opt out telemetry that collects client system information on screen resolution (system.gfx.monitors[index].screenHeight and system.gfx.monitors[index].screenWidth sound suited already), DPI scaling and text scaling
Decisions on the new Proton UI are being made on the basis of data about users screen sizes, however the current hardware telemetry only reports on a screen's physical pixel size, and not the size windows are actually drawn at after accounting for Windows 10's inbuilt display scaling, which seems to often be recommended to be 150% on a 1080p screen, reducing the window pixels back down to 720p.
We should collect the virtual resolution as well in order to understand how Firefox users are actually experiencing the browser.
You might also want to consider gathering telemetry on Firefox window sizes, or else on the screen real estate available to Firefox (if that is possible).
Several OS elements (Windows taskbar, macOS menu and Dock, and various Linux equivalents) can reduce the amount of space available. Even "maximized" windows often do not take up the entire screen.
