It also works (shows the reader button for me) after a refresh, presumably because things are cached or something. I expect we check the result too early / don't re-evaluate it after more content arrives dynamically. I don't know why without debugging in more detail, and I don't have time to do that right now. :-(

As of today, it appears that this issue has resolved from the bbc.com end as the reader view button now shows up as expected.
