Hallo Herr Schmidt! :-)
Danke für deinen Fehlerbericht.
Bug 1593039 reports the same, but I'm not duplicating yet as in both bugs we do not have reproducable steps, so we just have the same symptom, but the causes might be different. Let's try to get more details here first and dupe later.

If you have more details, kindly share. I know this might be exactly what you did, but unfortunately it won't be enough to reproduce...

errorGettingDB=Unable to open the summary file for %S. Perhaps there was an error on disk, or the full path is too long.
It's about message summary files (*.msf) where certain meta data on messages are saved.

Two things, methinks... ;-)
- Which INBOX or mail-account ist affected
Indeed! Account is definitely needed in this error message.
- Detailed information what is wrong.
Might be more difficult, but yeah...
Speaking of information, I'll ask for more information in my next comment.

I have some more questions trying to narrow this down.
- Pls report your exact version number (help > about tb)
- Does this happen every time you start TB?
- When (which version) did this start (and what was the previous version you've been using)?
- Anything which you changed on your side?
- Are you able to tell on which account type this occured? (POP3 vs. IMAP) - I know, account is missing in error message, but perhaps you have only IMAP accounts, or only POP accounts, or some other way of knowing...
- If occuring at every start (or often), does the bug still happen after
≡ > Help > Restart with Addons Disabled…
?
As this bug is about .msf files, "Repair folder" from folder context might help. I recommend to backup your TB profile before that, as certain meta data might get lost.
Bug 1593039 has some more background.
There's a number of bugs about message summary files:

Bug 1240722 might be a possible cause. These things are non-trivial in every way.

I've filed including the account name in the error message
as Bug 1709165.
There's a couple of bugs seeing this error message.

Hi Thomas,
sorry das Spiel kenn' ich von Arbeit, nein ohne mich.
Also das weitere in englisch.
The problem occurs sometimes since TB 78.x till the newest version. I have around 15 mail-account which are checked, most IMAP, some POP3. The first problem is I don't know which account raise this problem, because I get no information, a message there is a problem is something like "In China ist ein Sack Reis umgefallen", please add in this error message the path or the mail-account, so I can investigate in this mail-account why the problem occurs. I say not it is on Thunderbird- or my side, but I must know which account(s) are affected. If thunderbird raise an exception, my expactation is that I get enough information to investigate or solve such problem.
So my expactation for the next time is, that this error-message is enlarged with the path or e-mail-account.
Thanks in advance.

Please don't use full quotes unless required, let's avoid bloating the bug.

!!?? So geht das aber nicht, Herr Schmidt! Nee ehrlich jetzt!
Please don't mistake jovial (freundlich-entspannt) for not serious. I was explicitly asking you to reply inline and I actually meant that... I'm asking those questions for a reason, and I'm requesting inline answers for a reason! Bulk answers waste precious triage time, and you have actually NOT answered all of my questions... We depend on your cooperation in trying to figure out your bug report! Unfortunately, bugs with insufficient information will need to be closed as incomplete...

The first problem is I don't know which account raise this problem [SNIP] So my expactation for the next time is, that this error-message is [enhanced] with the path or e-mail-account.
I have already acknowledged that in my comment 2 ("Indeed! Account is definitely needed in this error message."), and per comment 5, I have filed Bug 1709165 particularly for the purpose of adding account name
to the error message.
What we're requesting from you now is explicit inline answers to each one of the questions in my comment 3. Thank you for your cooperation!

Btw fwiw, from my investigations for bug 1709165, I found that this error message can only occur on IMAP accounts.

This report and bug-report 1709165 can be close, the correction is successful verified with Thunderbird 78.11.0 (64-bit).
Remark: A same problem occurs, if no IMAP-connectio(s) are possible, there also the account-information is missing, but if this occurs a new bug-ticket will be opened.
Thanks for the correction to all participants.
