User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:87.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/87.0

Steps to reproduce:

I restarted my computer, happens after every reboot.

Steps:

  1. Restart computer (Ubuntu 18.04, reboot command).
  2. Open Firefox

Actual results:

The window opens in a very irregular fashion (as can be seen in the image). The window is not at all responsive and I have to manually close the session from terminal.

Expected results:

The browser window should open normally as it does always.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Gtk' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Widget: Gtk
Product: Firefox → Core
Priority: -- → P1

Any updates here? I still face this issue even though firefox has upgraded.

This might be the same as bug 1630251.

If so: when I run into this, I typically am able to work around it by un-maximizing the window, e.g. by clicking some blank space in the top bar of the screen (to the left or right of the Ubuntu date/time widget), and then I drag downwards, to detach the window. That's sufficient to kick it into gear to paint properly. Then I can re-maximize it (if desired) by dragging the titlebar back to the top of the screen.
