User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/90.0.4430.93 Safari/537.36 Edg/90.0.818.56

Steps to reproduce:

Select one or more email messages and select print. When the Win32 print dialog comes up I have to select the "preferences" button and select black and white printing and duplex printing each time.

Actual results:

If I forget to adjust the printer Preferences (Via the dialog button), the printing ALWAYS defaults to color printing and single-sided printing. We always like to print in B&W and two sided.

Expected results:

In Thunderbird 78 it works as expected -- I set it once and it saves it permanently and weeks later I still have no issue. But with Thunderbird 89.0b3 I have to set the prefs each time I print anything.

Rick, do you still experience this issue when using 90 beta?

TCW can you reproduce?

TCW can you reproduce?

Nope. It retains what I do on my setup at work and at home. I tested with 78 portable as well on a fresh profile and it's ok for me. I'm wondering if maybe it's printer model specific or possibly if on Win 10 that the "Let windows manage my default printer" setting is interfering? I always prefer to uncheck this setting. OP, can you try that?

ok.. Sorry guys for the VERY late reply.. Life kinda got in the way.. Anyway, I'll be happy to try.. I'll admit that I had to uninstall the version I was having problems with months ago and went back to '78 which continues to run just fine (I'm currently running 78.13.0 - 64bit) on Win 10 pro.

My question to you is -- is there a particular version that you'd like me to try again? I don't see version 90 anymore -- only 91.0.3 as the latest perhaps bleeding edge version. Please let me know and I'll install it once I hear back and give it a try.

In terms of my printer, I'm using a Konica Minolta Bizhub C360i series PCL printer in an office environment. We've had zero issues with other programs but just this one problem..

Yes, my "Let windows manage my default printer" is checked on. I just unchecked it and will re-set my default printer to the one I want (which wasn't correct in my case)

ok.. I installed 91.0.3 (64-bit) a bit ago.. I had to re-setup all of my accounts which I expected.. But printing is a no-go for me.. We do a lot of printing and have some emails that are orders from a webstore we run with not super great HTML in the header.. But Thunderbird 78 handles it like a charm.. 91.0.3 not so much.. I essentially get blank pages printed out with the heading "thunderbird" at the top and a time stamp in the lower right corner and nothing else.. zero .. zip .. nada..

I tried several of our "order" emails and they all exhibit the same result. If I tell TB to print 5 of the emails I get one printed page as described. Really wierd and yes I know that is probably a different bug report but I'll probably have to move back to TB 78 again.. as much as I like the look of '91.. ugg..

Ok.. Update.. This printing issue has to do with not printing the downloadable links in the email header (generated by our webstore) -- we usually don't have these print to save some toner.. That worked fine w/ '78 but not with '91.. If I tell TB to load the external content then print all is good. So maybe all is not lost yet..

Ok.. Update #2 -- this works fine in '78 but is broken in '91 -- If I select 3 emails to print and have the downloadable content enabled (so external links are loaded), the print preview window shows nothing to print.. However if I select one email it works as expected -- again, a completely separate issue from this bug report.

This last bit is bug 1727107, fixed in 92 beta, and expect will appear in 91.1.1 or so in a couple weeks. The capability to print multiple pages won't be possible for some time.

Ok. Thanks.. I think for now I'll probably revert back to '78 for a while longer and maybe give 91/92 a shot in a few months. Unfortunately some of these are problematic in our particular use-cases for TB at the moment.

ps. I like the overall looks and feature set of the '91 builds.. They're looking pretty nice! Keep up the good work!
