Steps to reproduce

1. Open Firefox.
2. Go to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/firefox/
3. Observe the the tab.

Expected result

Long tab title should have a fade like the one on Windows 10 and on macOS.

Actual Result

Long tab title is displayed without a fade on Windows 7.
X button looks to close to the tab title.

I think this is a byproduct of bug 1695140. Note that the example document in comment 0 seems to be just under the title length limit before it starts the fade. If you visit a page with a longer title (this bug is actually a perfect example), you get the fade - see screenshot. The fade only occurs when we detect that the text is long enough to overflow its container, which the comment 0 document title is just under.

I don't really know what the right move here is... bug 1695140 was landed in order to bias towards showing more of the tab title, which is exactly what we're doing here. Perhaps we were being overzealous? Or perhaps this rule should only be applied when tabs are really small? What do you think, jaws?

Bug 1695140 was the best we could come up with given the design constraints. I think the only other option is to propose making the tab close button smaller so we have more room for the tab label, and then we can always have the fade and not have to play games with the close-button size.

Resolving this bug as WONTFIX because Firefox versions >= 116 no longer support Windows versions < 10.
