I wanted to refer to the comments I wound up making re: bug 161836 (comment 7), 
as it went beyond the RFE implied in that bug reference.

I think you will find some good starting directions for breaking new ground on 
the tabbed browsing metaphor...!

this doesn't need multiple bugs - if a new specification for the tabbed
interface is going to be implemented, it all needs to be set out in one place.
if it doesn't fit within the summary, change the summary!
