1712977 - Firefox previous session is destroyed on close

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start firefox and make sure to set "Startup: restore previous session"
2. Open a few tabs so you can recognize the session
3. Close firefox and reopen, now you will see a new session with none of the old tabs

Actual results:

My session disappears when I close and reopen firefox

Expected results:

My session should resume when I re-open firefox.

It currently works this way when firefox is open and I shutdown my computer. Then the next day I'll start my computer and open firefox and it will resume my last session.

Hi,

I wasn't able to reproduce your issue on Firefox 88.0.1 or Firefox Nightly 90.0a1

Could you check if it occurs to you on a new profile? (you will not lose your old profile) Here is a link that can help you with that:

I'm having the same issue. I created a new profile, and the issue still happens. I'm on Firefox 89.0.

So, I found out what causes the issue.

How to reproduce
I'm using MacOS Big Sur 11.4.
If I close the Firefox window by pressing the window's red (x) button at the top left corner, like a normal person would do, the session is lost. I'm convinced Firefox simply closes all the tabs in this case as if I had Cmd-W every single tab.

How to prevent losing the session
However, if I quit Firefox (Cmd-Q, or right-click Firefox in the dock and Quit), then the session is saved and when I reopen Firefox all my tabs are there.

I still have issues with a brand new profile.

Sounds like Rafael is in the exact same boat as I am.

I actually figured out why this happens. I had "erase history when FireFox is closed" checked, which destroys your session I guess. The issue no longer occurring after disabling that.

It would be nice to see another checkbox that says:
[ ] - Destroy session when FireFox closes
