Tried fiddling around with userchrome.css but without much success so I might as well leave some feedback here. Perhaps product/UX could come out and justify their spec instead of hiding behind jira and "INVALID/WONFIX-ing because this is according to spec".
STR:
- Notice the order and naming of places context menu in ESR78.
- Notice the order and naming of places context menu in 89.
- Open
about:libraryin 89. - Right-click on a bookmark entry and notice
Remove Bookmarkhaseas its access key. - Right-click on a folder entry and notice
Remove Folderhasmas its access key. - Click on
Organizein the top left corner. - Wait!
Deleteis somehow still there even though it was supposedly renamed toRemove Bookmark/Remove Folder! And the access key is still the same thank goodness! - Select more than one bookmark and one folder entry and right-click on them.
- And NOW I am getting
Deletebecause...? - It's good to see that we now have three different access keys even though they all do the same thing as far as the end user is concerned.
To me this just screams that product/UX doesn't actually use their own UI. What exactly is wrong with following OS convention in placing Delete under Cut/Copy/Paste? And if I right-click a bookmark in about:library towards the bottom of the screen Delete is actually closest to the cursor (yes this is how I use it).
The same goes for Properties which is now Edit Bookmark(/Rename Folder). This one is confusing because I might not necessary want to edit a particular bookmark entry when I click on Properties. Instead I might just want to check the keywords field, of which I use as a replacement for the description field after it was removed somewhere back in 64 thanks to "Sync". Then again you should try right-clicking on your own Desktop icons sometime.
Frankly I am tired of having to fight the "modern" web and the Firefox UX team at the same time. Your efforts are making it increasing easy for me to finally switch to ungoogled-chromium. I am not convinced by the periodic UI tinkering/"simplifying"/"modernizing" and recent attempts to nudge/pester users to use the address bar for (web) search, instead of adding more options into about:preferences for users to choose. I have accumulated quite a number of bookmarks over the years and I think the day when product/UX decide to "modernize" about:library will be the day I finally drop Firefox.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Bookmarks & History' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Thank you for your report.
There has been a major design change in Firefox and Themes are part of this change. You can read more about these changes here: https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/new-firefox-coming-june-1/.
I'll mark this issue as an Enhancement and I'll set as New for visibility.
Thanks!

The Remove Folder & related items have now been renamed back to delete.
Whilst we appreciate that moving items around can be frustrating, we have no plans as far as I know to re-arrange these again, and similarly, there has not been significant feedback about this. One thing you could do is to put some of the specific comments on https://ideas.mozilla.org and see the feedback there - that is where we are now collecting feedback similar to this.
For now I'm marking this as wontfix as we don't have plans for making further changes.
