Steps to reproduce:

Open gmail and leave open for 24 hours+

Actual results:

Memory usage grows quickly. Up to 4GB after being open for 3 days. Last session (before latest update) was up to 17GB after a few days. PID 999 in memory report.

Expected results:

I wouldn't expect gmail to use so much memory and to grow by so much over time.

Memory usage from gmail tab up to 6.44GB after 21 hours from initial report. Memory usage only seemed to increase while device was sleeping.

I was unable to reproduce it on latest Nightly 91.0a1 on macOS 10.15.
Could you please try to reproduce this issue on latest Nightly and tell us your input? You can download it from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/.

If still happens, it would really help us if you can provide a memory report, here are the steps:
1)Wait until Firefox is consuming a large amount of memory
2)In the URL bar type about:memory and press enter
3)Click "Measure and save" (optionally with "anonymize" checked to hide URLs, although this will likely make it more difficult for us to figure out which site, if any, is causing the leak)
4)Save the memory report somewhere
5)Attach the report to this bug

Another thing that would be great to have the performance Profile.
To do that please capture a performance profile using the Firefox built-in profiler. You can get more info on how to install and use the Firefox built-in profiler add-on (that helps you get the performance profile) by going to:

There is something odd happening based on the performance profile. There are tons of setTimeout handlers running all the time.
Either some addon triggers that, or it is the web page itself. Most of the setTimeouts are from hangouts.google.com.
Memory report hints that it might not be coming from an addon, but from the page itself.

Hi Olli, I did this with the latest nightly (at the time) with no addons. The increase is almost always seen after waking from sleep and I can’t recall it increasing during long awake sessions. I have had issues in the past with SLAAC and losing IPv6 connectivity although I cannot confirm that happening recently. Could dropping and dropping ipv6 connectivity possibly result in this?

I do think I have seen the hangouts section in the lower left connecting and reconnecting.

I also have several devices logged in via VPN to multiple countries, so this also may be an artifact of google tracking too mich.

Operating System: Windows 10 PRO x64
Operating System: Mac OSX 10.15.6

Suggestion: Try clearing cache/data/cookies, disable addons and Ad-blocker (if available), or use a clean profile, and check again? If there are any changes made to the default settings of the browser (e.g. in about: config) please revert to the default settings and try again. Also, have the required cookies been accepted for this page? If the issue is still reproducible on your side, please submit a performance profile following these steps (https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/performance/reporting_a_performance_problem.html and https://profiler.firefox.com/docs/#/ ) by commenting here with the attached profile or opening a new issue with the said performance profile attached.
