Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021001
NOTE: I've observed this mostly during MailNews sessions, but it looks like the
problem is in the Quit/Re-launch procedure associated with QL. But it could be
a MailNews bug.
Watching Mozilla with ProcessExplorer:
Start with no Mozilla (not QL). Launch normally, &Edit-&Prefs and activate QL.
OBSERVING: just what one would expect, Mozilla.exe process created and gets busy.
Quit Mozilla.
OBSERVING: the Active Mozilla.exe process spawns a child Mozilla, releases its
resources (handles) and terminates, leaving the child. OK, shutdown time
/seems/ as strange time to spawn a child but it's always been that way so,
whatever works.
Re-activate from the Tray Icon.
OBSERVING: pretty much what one would expect (?) the existing Mozilla.exe
process spawn a second (generation III) process which takes off and services the
window(s).
Quit again.
RightMouse the TrayIcon, select ExitMozilla.
EXPECT: the remaining Mozilla.exe process should release it's 156 open handles
and terminate.
OBSERVED: Nothing. Absoulutely Nothing. No changes in state of the Mozilla.exe
process.
Separate experiments show the following.
If I try to use ProcessExplorer to kill the Moz process, the first time I try it
seems to be OK but the process stays on the display; if I try again I get
"access denied."
If I again launch Mozilla.exe, the new process totally ignores the existing one.
If I initiate a ShutDown, Windoz cannot terminate the Moz process normally -- I
get a "Ending Program . . . Not Responding" dialog, when I select 'End Now' if
ProcessExplorer hasn't been killed it shows the Moz process is still there.
Everything else terminates normally and finally (most of the time) Windoz shuts
down. Sometimes I've needed to pull the plug to get a shutdown.

I should have come back immediately with this, but I was in too much hurry at
the time and then Parkinson's Law drove it out.
At the time I had Computer Associates ezArmor installed - both the AV component
and the deskshield email protection. The latter appears to be the trigger to
this behavior. When I upgraded to the "pay" version and had to take the AV only
to keep the price down, this behavior and a related problem during startup ceased.
There are still bad interactions with security software and I would hope this
could be left open until there's been a better analysis of what's happening.
But that's me - YMMV.

Quicklaunch/Turbo Mode is no longer supported in Seamonkey 2 and Seamonkey1.X is in the maintenance mode (fixing only security bugs)
