A few questions to help narrow this down:

  • To rule out add-ons and profile issues, is the behavior the same in troubleshooting mode?
  • How many instances do you see in the mixer? Does it relate to how many windows/tabs are open? Does the workaround in bug 1404447 comment 3 (reducing the content processes) work?
  • Is this a recent behavior change? If it only happens with more recent versions, please try https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ to narrow down when this regressed.

A few questions to help narrow this down:

When I opened Firefox In troubleshoot mode only appeared 1 in the mixer. Then I closed, Firefox disappeared in the mixer.

  • How many instances do you see in the mixer? Does it relate to how many windows/tabs are open? Does the workaround in bug 1404447 comment 3 (reducing the content processes) work?

It relates to how many I exitFirefox and start a new instance.

I don't know about mozregression.

New information, when I close the mixer, Firefox instance in the mixer is also disappeared.

This implies that there may be a problem with your profile or something going on with an add-on. Can you try a refresh and see if that resolves it? If not, can you attach the contents of about:support so we have some more insight into your system?

I'm not sure I understand. If you've closed the mixer, how do you know whether the multiple Firefox instances in the mixer are still there? Are you saying the problem goes away if you close and reopen the mixer?

I tried refresh my Firefox from about:support, it'still happened.
I'm sorry, I can't share my about:support.

Yes, if I closed the mixer, then open it again, Firefox instance in the mixer disappear.

I attached the volume mixer, while Firefox is closed. But multiple instance in the volume mixer. While another browser only existed 1 instance as shown.

Kinetik, I think you have some experience with the related issues. Any thoughts?

Flags: needinfo?(kinetik)

I can't reproduce this locally with Firefox Nightly on Windows 10 21H1. If I open the volume mixer and keep it visible, then start and stop Firefox multiple times, I see a single Firefox instance appear and disappear in the mixer each time it starts and stops, as expected. I'm not aware of any changes between Firefox 90 and the current Nightly that would affect this, either.

Can you please open about:support, select Copy raw data to the clipboard and paste the result into the bug?

If you're able to test a different version of Firefox and report if you still see the issue, that may also be helpful. Either try the latest Nightly build, or an earlier version (e.g. 89, or the last version you remember didn't show this issue). Thanks!
