Steps to reproduce:
Not every time, but I'd estimate 75% of the time, when I click on a link from another app or program, Firefox hangs and refuses to let me interact with it. It can take anywhere from 2-3 seconds all the way up to 1-2 minutes after which I close Firefox and re-open it.
Actual results:
Firefox hangs after opening links from other applications.
Expected results:
The link should have opened without Firefox hanging.
Sorry, forgot to add this. I am on Windows 21H1 and Firefox 90.0.2 - this has been happening for a few months now. I've tried everything from a new profile to refreshing firefox to uninstalling fully, deleting all Roaming files, and reinstalling.
I'm not sure if it helps, but when doing all of the above the issues appear to start again once I start syncing my Firefox account or import my bookmarks (which I also got rid of 90% of, in case it was slowing it down).

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::New Tab Page' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.
Hi, im unable to replicate this on windows 10 64bit with firefox release 90.0.2
What i did was to open a pdf with a link with adobe acrobat, and then i clicked on a link and it opened firefox in 1 or 2 seconds and loaded the website. Also tried with a firefox account with bookmarks and synched.
Does this issue occur in the latest nightly version of firefox? Here is a link from where you can download it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/
you might need to make firefox nightly as default browser.

Hey Pablo! It's a weird one, it doesn't happen all the time and maybe a few times a day instead of every single link.
I've installed Firefox Nightly and so far I've not had any issues. It could happen any time in the next few hours though, so I'll give it a go and report back tomorrow. I've also logged in to Firefox to sync, got all my bookmarks and tabs back open, etc. Last time I did this on the normal Firefox it had an issue/it happened within a few minutes - this time it's been a good 20 minutes and nothing so far.

So far on Firefox Nightly I've not had this issue once. I switched back to the normal Firefox to try and it happened again on there.
Not sure if there's anything else I can provide that will help, but using the Nightly version appears to have fixed it so far. I've opened every link without issue or any hangs.

This looks like an issue with opening links and navigation, not the newtab page itself.
My best guess is tabbed browser component is probably a start in finding a more appropriate home for this bug.
