User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:90.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/90.0

Steps to reproduce:

I can't reproduce this on demand.

Actual results:

But sometimes I'm typing away, look up, and see that another update notice opened a new tab, and switched me to the new tab while I've been typing.

It's hard to guess how much I've lost. Due to coordination issues, I have to look at the keyboard to type, I can't watch the monitor at the same time.

Expected results:

If webextension update notices open new tabs, they should open in the background and shouldn't switch users to the new tab.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Tabbed Browser' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Tabbed Browser

Could you please provide a detailed step by step how to reproduce this issue?
I really could't figure out how to reproduce this from what you added in the description.
Thanks.

  1. Install some extensions.

  2. Wait for one of them to update. This may take a few weeks or months. Translate Web Pages updated yesterday.

  3. Find yourself on a new tab as a result of the update.
