Steps to reproduce:
The product I'm working on use Firefox browser as a testing tool. Recently we upgrade the Firefox to version 90 from version 83, and we found the performance downgrade significantly.
We ran a selenium script with Firefox for 2 hours. and monitor the CPU and memory for Firefox process. We do the same test on Firefox 83, Firefox 88, Firefox 90 and Firefox 91.
Actual results:
Comparing the results on these three runs, we found the footprint downgrade significantly after Firefox 90
Expected results:
the footprint shouldn't increase so much on the latest version
Here is detailed picture. we can see both in single process and multi-process the Firefox 90 and 91 consumes more memory and CPU comparing to Firefox 83 and Firefox 88, the increment is almost double for CPU and 40% for memory, and are not acceptable.
Are there any ways to reduce the CPU and memory on the latest version of Firefox? thanks.

Hey bin li,
Can you give us a small test case on how to test this issue or even a recording of the issue?
Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

I encountered a possibly same performance degradation:
Test case:
https://ws9.me/misc/firefox/1.html
Press the button in red.
Firefox 90.0 … 30secs
Firefox 89.0b9 … < 1sec
Chrome 92 … < 1sec
In my case, the degradation occurs when rendering a lot of images.
<img src=>
is slow on Firefox90+, but background image is not.
Can you take a look? (let me know if I should file a separate bug ticket).

bin li, I'm going to close this bug because we don't have a profile (see Comment 3) or a test case.
But please feel free to re-open this once you can provide those.
