User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20020930
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20020930

Clicking on any link that should download a file is broken. In some cases, the
save as dialog comes up, accepts a filename, then goes away, not saving the
file. No error msg. Sometimes with a download link or with Save Target As, you
get this error (windows flavor):

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\28edgcru.exe could not be saved, because the source file could
not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

Same link saves fine in IE5.5.

See a similar error dialog on mac OS9 build also.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. right click on a download file link, choose Save Target As...
2. enter filename
3. save

Actual Results:
nothing saved

Expected Results:
Saved image/file

The file name seems to be generated randomly. Repeat attempts generate a new
local filename.
Talkback id TB12050070X, also these are similar crashes:
TB11999816Z
TB11993960G
TB11804045E
The original bug-report here say nothing of a crash. Yet you add stacks and
talkback ID's in comment 1 and 2. Are those comments somehow related to the
orignal bug? When during the save attempts does the crash occure?

If the crash comments were intended for some other bug, this looks like another
duplicate of bug 171441
I'll mark it as a dupe. I think this is, once again, caused by incomplete update
of compreg.dat (thus deleting components\compreg.dat while Mozilla is not
running) cures it and other problems, such as bug 170465.

I added the crash data because moz always crashed after attempting one of these
saves. I deleted compreg.dat, all is well now, saves work, and no crash at quit.
or more clearly, moz would crash when you next exited the program. You could
run after the attempted save fine, just got the crash on exit. Seemed related -
no save attempt, no crash on exit. Might have been where the compreg got
corrupted...
