I was playing around with Phoenix yesterday, and they've got a cool little
feature built in.  You can add the search button to the toolbar (Chimera
currently does this).  However, there's a little text field next to the search
button.

Enter text there, hit return, and Phoenix searches whatever engine you have
built  in, pulling the results up in the main window.  It's simple, slick, and fast.

Why not just reuse the Location field and have the search button have a pop-down
menu that you could select search engines with? I think that adding another text
field would clutter things.

Not quite the same bug, but I don't think a dedicated search bar will be
implemented. Bug 158246 already has patches, and a target milestone set,
therefore being likely to be actually fixed.
