User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:92.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/92.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. in Firefox 91.0.2, Default font: Default (DejaVu Serif)

  2. in KDE Plasma, prefer Victor Mono for all fonts

  3. pages such as https://github.com/freebsd/poudriere/issues/882 appear OK

  4. quit Firefox

  5. upgrade to Firefox 92.0

Actual results:

  1. it appears that DejaVu Serif is no longer used, where expected

  2. unexpected use of monospace

– wonder whether this is (in my case) Victor Mono.

Expected results:

  1. use of DejaVu Serif

This bug:

  • was first observed on FreeBSD 14.0-CURRENT
  • is reproducible by me on FreeBSD 13.0-RELEASE-p4.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Layout: Text and Fonts' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Layout: Text and Fonts
Product: Firefox → Core

Workaround:

  • use the desktop environment to set a general font preference
  • quit Firefox
  • start Firefox.

Using Firefox to change the default font seems to have no effect.

  1. unexpected use of monospace

The bug is not monospace-specific.

In this recording:

Sites such as bugzilla.mozilla.org seem to be not affected. (Maybe not a good example; it seems that bugzilla.mozilla.org continues to use its own fonts after the user ceases allowing pages to choose their own fonts.)

Linux

Not reproducible with Firefox 92.0b7 (beta) from https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-beta/rev/d336e426e540add1e23bbad569f9f1de2f309d8b (2021-08-22) with KDE Plasma on Manjaro.

Not reproducible with more recent Firefox 92.0b9 from https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-beta/rev/8139224af521d467e8852b173e5ca5996858c4bd (2021-08-25) on Manjaro Linux.

Reported downstream https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=258293 with an assumption that the bug may be specific to FreeBSD.

Setting severity to S4 since this seems to be BSD-specific.
