Details
For version .5 of Chimera the forward and back keyboard short cuts were
accidentally remapped to command-[ and command-]. Since the dawn of the browser
the left and right arrow keys have been the go forward and go back short cuts.
Mosaic and even Lynx had this feature (and still do). Command-left and
command-right had been the navigation keys in previous builds of Chimera.
There is a perfectly good reason to keep all the navigation in one place.
Vertical navigation is still done with the up and down arrows. In order to move
back or forward you must now move your hand from a well defined and easy to
identify (without looking) set of keys to a (for most users) little used
position on the keyboard. The arrow keys are set aside from the other keys, the
brackets are in a cluster of other unrelated keys. By splitting up the
navigation keys you increase the chance of user triggering an unintended action.
Accidentally pressing Command-Left or Right will not disrupt the users task,
where as pressing Command-P (Print) will.
