I am seeing this behaviour on a HP's Tru64 UNIX.
None of the attachment is shown in the header pane.
If the attachment file has an extension (for ex. files.tar),
the attachment is not shown.

I'm getting errors with all types of files. I tried to send myself a file with
text, jpeg, zip and Excel attachments, and I can't see any of them in the email.
There are also no attachment icons in the bar above the message in the preview
pane, and when I double-click on the email, the window that appears is
completely blank.
I can't even save the email as a file to add as an attachment to this bug!
Instead, I am attaching a screenshot of the message as it appears in my client.
Also, none of the attachments are listed under the File/Attachments menu, and
trying to "Save All" produces an error: "Unable to save the attachment. Please
check your file name and try again later."
Why do I get the impression my installation of Mozilla is somehow corrupted? :/
I tried deleting the compreg.dat file but this didn't help.

This email has 4 attachments, but none of them are showing up and I can't save
them or even save the message.

Windows 2000 Mozilla 1.2b. Imap mailserver. Headerpane is broken. None of my
attachments are showin, neither are the triangles for showing, collapsing the to
and cc fields.
Re-installed mozilla 1.2b with no avail. Going back to Mozilla 1.2a helped. Can
see the attachemnts again in de headerpane.

Creating a new userprofile resolved this issue for me.

I have the same problem with 1.2 final : no attachement is showing up (whatever
the attachement type) in 3 pane view (the "Attachements:" box is here but
empty), If I open the received message in a seperate window, the attachement appear.

Resolved : I deleted the XUL.mlf file and restarted mozilla. But I guess that a
"normal" user should stay blocked forever with this bug !

Another screenshot demonstrating the bug. The shot is from version 1.3a, but
the bug was originally observed in 1.2.1 and I upgraded in a shotgun attempt to
fix the problem; it didn't work. Deleting XUL.mfl didn't work either.
Reverting to Moz 1.1 did solve the problem. I haven't reverted back yet, so I
don't know if 1.1 has "fixed" the profile or the mail spool, or whether it's
just ignoring whatever conditions were causing the bug in later versions.
I think this should be a dataloss bug, since the affectred attachments are
essentially irretrievable without going to extreme methods (version downgrade
or cutting and pasting the message source into a base64 decoder).
Platform: Win98 SE Mozilla version: 1.3a

I've integrated the attached message into my mail, and it shows the attachment
correctly in the pane with a current Mozilla build.
The screenshots attached by Barry de la Rosa and Steve Freeland displays a
symptom from a particular and well known bug that was fixed quite a while ago,
bug 106461.
Reporter (jens@ja-web.de): if your original problem involved a similar display
to those screenshots -- in particular, with the headers being shown in a
scrollable grey portion of the message body, instead of in a separate header --
then please mark this bug as a dupe of 106461. If you had a different symptom,
then report whether the bug is still occurring for you. If not, please mark
this bug Resolved|WorksForMe.
