RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 171441

People

(Reporter: bemark, Assigned: bugzilla)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021009
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021009

Every time I click on a lint to download a file, I get an alert:
"C:\DOCUME~1\MPATTE~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\7q7xqd2k.exe could not be saved, because the
source file could not be read.
Try again later, or contact the server administrator."

The 7q7xqd2k part is different each time, even on the same link. Otherwise it's
the same for any file. I started having this problem with a week old version of
Moz, so I tried getting the nightly build today. It downloaded fine in IE, but
this problem persists.

The file it's trying to address is obviously in
C:\Documents and Settings\mpatterson\Local Settings\Temp

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on any download link, e.g. the ones on www.mozilla.org
2.
3.

Actual Results:
An alert shows up

Expected Results:
It should have started a download
It was this error, true, but works fine with new builds:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021014

More from the original reporter: I just installed "Mozilla 1.2b Mozilla/5.0
(Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021015", and the problem is
still there.
I am also getting this same error under:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016

I have tried uninstalling Mozilla, reinstalling it (1.2b), and then rebooting,
but I still get the same error. My account's "...\Local Settings\Temp\"
directory has been cleared to contain no files to no avail -- still the same error.

As an aside, it looks like when Mozilla tries to save the file, it creates a
zero-byte file in the Temp directory and then produces the error that Mark
Patterson reports above. This file only exists while the error message box is
shown as when I press "OK," the file gets deleted.

Uninstalling 1.2b and going back to any of the 1.01, 1.1, and 1.2a releases
seems to resolve this problem (ie does not show up in those versions). For now,
Mark might want to go back to one of these older versions...
Of course, going back to 1.2a hits the "cnn.com news scrolls off the page;
paragraphs do not wrap" bug. Argh.

Hmmm, I see this with the latest nightly, 2002-10-17-04-trunk, on W2K at work.

I normally use CVS builds here at home, and I can't recall my CVS builds every
having this problem, but I am currently running the nightly from 2002-10-08-08
here (because of Mail/News bugs which have now been fixed) on XP and it is fine.

I am currently spinning a new build so I'll test it out.
OK, this is a dupe of bug 171441
