When mach's virtualenv is outdated can it just update it and continue? Rather than printing The "mach" virtualenv is not up-to-date, please run "./mach create-mach-environment" and me walking away for a while thinking my build is running.

Coming soon, and sorry about the noise here. This situation is marginally better than failing at "command run time" due to the Mach environment being out-of-date in a tough to debug way.
