User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:94.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/94.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Customize the toolbar so the bookmarks menu is available, if necessary, add bookmark folder
  3. Maximize Firefox on the left monitor
  4. Open bookmarks menu
  5. Open bookmark folder

Actual results:

Folder placement is inconsistent, and often appears in a place where it is unusable (behind another UI element).

Expected results:

Folder appears in open space on the left monitor where it can be interacted with.

This is using a Wayland session in Linux, x86_64. This is an upstream version of a downstream Fedora bug.

It may be a duplicate of 1394367.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Bookmarks & History' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Bookmarks & History

With Wayland, I can reproduce this issue on my Ubuntu 20.04 x 64 machine (with 2 monitors) on the latest Nightly 96.0a1, Firefox 95 beta 4, Firefox 94, Firefox 93, Firefox 91.3.0 esr. Setting the Status of this report to NEW.

I can repro the bad positioning of the "other bookmarks" menu in nightly indeed. Actually the popup doesn't seem to open at all if my window is maximized on my left monitor.

I get an interesting crash after a bunch of tries: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/ee7163f6-059b-4234-9132-a79880211109

Martin?

This is variant of https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1783

As Gnome folks are hesitant to fix this one feel free to poke them directly at gitlab.gnome.org (you need github account for it or so).
