User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:94.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/94.0

Steps to reproduce:

Update Firefox to 94.0

Actual results:

After starting new version user is greeted with a popup that covers whole UI and cannot be easily dismissed or ignored.

Expected results:

New features should be introduced more subtly, e.g. in new tab, as was in older versions. Popup that covers whole UI is really annoying. There should be a toggle to disable such popups.

Thank you for reporting this joshas. Are you unable to dismiss the upgrade dialog? If so, would it be possible to upload a screenshot of the dialog?

UI blocking not important dialog is bad UX.
I was expecting easier way to dismiss upgrade dialog: either big and noticeable close button, or by clicking on grey area outside dialog. Current "Not now" link is too small and a bit harder to find. Good thing that Esc key works to close dialog.
What happened to "What's new" menu entry? That was very decent way to inform about new features.

Thanks for the feedback. The UX team is reviewing this panel and considering these issues.

Not sure if touch devices should be considered too (low user base), but today I stumbled on same popup on my old Windows 10 tablet. It took two taps to dismiss popup: one to tap "not now" on Colorways introduction and other on "Start browsing" (sorry, if I got button labels wrong). As there is no physical keyboard with Escape key on tablet, having only single small tap targets to dismiss popup is not very user friendly.

:victoria let me know if this changes our UX strategy for subsequent versions.

joshas, thank you for the feedback on this feature

We're continuing to discuss these issues but don't have a overall recommendation yet. I've added a link to this bug to our "spotlight modal audit" figma document.

A follow up to modal issues on Windows 10 tablet: after recent update to Firefox 100 I was welcomed with this modal, which on 1280x800px tablet screen has scrollbars. And it is impossible to dismiss modal by tapping outside modal (on grey area), I must click that tiny "Not now" text.

The least you could do, is to convert "Not now" link to a button of same size as primary button. The perfect solution would include making modal dismissable by tapping on outside area and adding "Do not show again" checkbox, to stop showing UI blocking modals.

Bug 1766774 is for changing the "not now" link to look like a button. Bug 1763612 is about the message showing for tablet users.
