It would be nice to be able to assign an icon to a folder,
actually in bookmarks as well as the toolbar.

As an example, I have a toolbar folder with all my mozilla
related bookmarks in it. It would be nice to assign the
mozilla icon here instead of the usual folder icon.
Placing an icon in the "save" folder sould be reasonable
for anyone who wants to customize in the manner.
->bookmarks. seems like overkill to me. I can't think of UI that doesn't just
get in the way and clutter management of folders/bookmarks.
Asa,

part ( most? all? ) of it is aesthetics. Phoenix has such a great
"clean" look. I noticed how much better the icon for mozillazine
looked when it substituted for the text. I'm looking for a way
to still have bookmark folders on the personal tool bar but have
a nice clean icon only, sans text. I just looks so much better
with the rest of the design.

Obviously, this is, at best, a very low level request.

Ben
A ui that wouldn't get in the way: in the Properties dialog for a bookmark
folder, include an "icon" button. This button would work like the color picker
in prefs: in would mostly act like a drop-down, but it would contain icons
arranged in a grid. All stored icons from bookmarked sites (and maybe even all
cached icons) would be included in the grid.

I'm not saying this feature is a good idea, but it could work without being
intrusive or awkward.
Summary: replace folder icon with an assigned one → allow user to choose an icon for each bookmark folder
Why stop at assigning icons to bookmark folders and bookmarks? why not have UI
to easily change any and all graphics in the program. We could add an item to
every context menu you get when right-clicking on any image in the entire
application for "change this image". The context menu could have a submenu
listing all of the possible images you could change to. It could also have a
build in screen capture utility so you could grab images from other application
chrome and a link to a google image search. Then we could add infinite undo and
redo for those changes and even build a "manager" to help you sort out your
image changes history. We could provide a webdav or other publishing utility so
that you could share your specific icon customizations with others on the web.
Then we could build into Phoenix special search functionality so you can easily
query the public databases for changes others have made to their icons as you go
looking for ways to make Pheonix work better for you. Then we could make a
toolbar with a button that when pressed would randomly cycle through that
database reflecting the recorded changes in your icons.

Seriously, there are some features worth thinking about and there are others
that aren't. I think this falls into the others that aren't catagory.

Asa,

I completely understand your remarks. I can't say I
disagree with you. However.....I've attached a jpg
of my present Phoenix.	It would more aesthetically
pleasing if instead of generic icon-text "Mozilla Project"
I had simply the moz icon. Instead of generic icon-
"Latest Builds" I had some icon. I assume my "home
pages" will no longer be necessary when we're able
to assign a multiple page/tab bookmark as our home
page in preferences.

Like I said before, this is surely off the radar
priority at this point. If you want to kill it, kill it,
but it would be nice to be able to use the toolbar space
a little more creatively. Especially with no text like
the mozillazine link.

I think this is overkill too.

Could we reconsider this bug?

I have several folders in my bookmarks bar, and the time it takes to identity each folder by reading the title definitely adds up.

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words :)
