The "update" dataset docs are in the obsolete section (dtmo link) which is strange since it's not obsolete. telemetry.update is in use and maintained and is a bog standard "ping-per-row" Firefox Desktop Telemetry dataset.

I think, through gitlog spelunking, I know what went awry. This used to be the reference for the direct2parquet derived dataset telemetry_update_parquet. That dataset is more than obsolete: it's been removed completely.

So I think what we want to do is remove the dataset reference from Obsolete. We might want to shine it up and put it in the normal Dataset Reference section, or just let bigquery-etl docs or the schema explorer help people figure out its use. Not sure.

I'd probably lean towards deleting it, to be honest. We don't have dataset documentation on DTMO for any of the other ping tables.

We have some documentation for this table in bigquery-etl already: https://mozilla.github.io/bigquery-etl/mozdata/telemetry/#update

:anicholson's recent proposal to improve the documentation here might make that more useful.
