Not sure what component to put this in, sorry.

STR:

  1. Be using Firefox Nightly
  2. Go to about:preferences
  3. Click any of the "learn more" links

These all lead to pages claiming I'm running version 91, with outdated information.

Per bug 834987 support pages may not be available for the latest nightly version, but shouldn't it at least point to the most recent version that is available?

Firefox Nightly is at version 96 right now, which hasn't been added to the Firefox "Customize this article" version picker. You're seeing content for Firefox 91 since that version is currently the "default" when SUMO articles are viewed in a different browser (I can confirm that by visiting any Mozilla Support Firefox KB article in a different browser).

Kiki, if it's too early for Firefox 96 be added to the version picker, can the "default" Firefox version be changed to 94, the current Firefox version?

I'm not sure how simple this would be, but is feasible that Firefox versions greater than the highest available be redirected to the most recent version, instead of the default?

(Although it also makes sense that the default should be the current version).

The default Firefox version shown to users viewing KB articles with other browsers used to be the current version. Setting the default was done manually, usually after a Firefox update when the version picker was updated to add the current Beta version. Simetimes this slipped though the cracks and bug reports were filed. Bug 1642762 , bug 1672863 and bug 1690180 are examples.

I was wondering why the default version hasn't been updated since Firefox 91 but thought maybe SUMO admin decided to deep the default the same as the latest ESR version. Hopefully Kiki will respond soon.

Thanks for this report, I agree it would be sensible to select the most recent version selectable, instead of the default, if a user's product exceeds the selectable options. I've filed an issue for this in our development tracker here: https://github.com/mozilla/sumo-project/issues/968

I've updated the default version to 95 for now, while we're waiting for the improvement that Leo mentioned above.

Thanks for raising this issue!

This is still a problem for Firefox Nightly users. See bug 1789998 comment 2.
