User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:95.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/95.0

Steps to reproduce:

Opened google map tab, zoomed in.

Actual results:

Gnome or/both? Firefox freezes GUI. Cursor will move but no buttons or links can be selected.

Expected results:

System should not have froze and the google map should have zoomed in.

Can't follow the profiler step as suggested since there is no way to stop recording and send once GUI freezes:

"Try taking a performance profile with https://profiler.firefox.com:

Click on "Enable Firefox Profiler Menu Button"
Select "Graphics" in the Settings dropdown
Start Recording
Reproduce the problem
Click on the blue profiler button next to the main menu button to end the recording
Click on "Upload Locale Profile" and "Upload"
Post the https://share.firefox.dev/ url in your bug"

Thanks for the report! Can this problem be fixed by setting widget.dmabuf-webgl.enabled to false on about:config and restarting Firefox?

Summary: Gnome freezes while using Firefox → Gnome and Firefox freeze when zooming in on Google Maps

I made the recommended change in about:config, switched setting "widget.dmabuf-webgl.enabled" to false , and rebooted Firefox.

I opened a tab for Google map and tried the zoom in feature. So far so good. Firefox and Gnome are stable.

I'll post an update if issue reoccurs....Thank you.

Does this bug still occur with Firefox Nightly?
Either download https://nightly.mozilla.org or run the following commands to start a temporary throwaway Nightly:
$ sudo apt install python3-pip
$ pip3 install --user mozregression
$ ~/.local/bin/mozregression --launch 2021-12-16 -a https://maps.google.com

This build works on the google map site at the very least. I haven't tried using for any other sites.

Can we bisect the fix for this? This will help us properly set the tracking flags for 96/97.

I'm not wholly convinced this is a Firefox issue. I'm having similar freezing issue with QGIS.

The bug has a release status flag that shows some version of Firefox is affected, thus it will be considered confirmed.
