Does not load any pages, hangs with high CPU load

Steps to reproduce:
After update to version 96 on Windows 10 21H2 (amd64 CPU), open Firefox with all extensions disabled and try to navigate to any HTTP(S) resource.
Actual results:
Indefinite loading spinner with no progress, high CPU load. Upon closing the browser, system tasks remain, one with very high CPU load and no visible disk or network activity.
Expected results:
Pages should load and the browser should terminate all processes upon exiting the application.
I can confirm this. I re-started the OS and downloaded an upgrade from the web to ensure that I do not have any complicating issues.
This started during a session with a few tabs open, nothing unusual. Now I cannot get the browser back to work. I am reporting this with the Chrome browser. I might not be able to do this with FireFox because it fails to load pages. When I close FireFox, then the CPU load remains. I need to kill all firefox.exe processes.
Please what is the next step for me to do to get this resolved?

I had this too this morning. Windows restart did not help, Firefox update/restart did not help either. In the end I did this: about:support -> refresh nightly. After that I needed to reinstall all the extensions I used and it now works. So apparently something got corrupted.
