Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0

Steps to reproduce:

Casual browsing.

Currently running Firefox Developer Edition 97.0b5.

After updating to 97.0b4 I noticed that sometimes the browser freezes on heavy loads. I left it frozen until it starts responding, but so far only one time it did. I had to refresh Firefox, to see if there was any change.

After the most recent update 97.0b5 I stopped getting Firefox freezing, but started getting BSoD occasionally. I refreshed Firefox just again, but i suspect that i might get a BSoD again.

I can not reproduce the error, and can not get diagnostics on what actually lead to this.

Actual results:

Freezing on 97.0b4 / BSoD on 97.0b5

Expected results:

No Errors

Summary: Occasional freeze, or BSoD → 97.0bX: Occasional freeze, or BSoD

Hey sevi,
I tested on dev edition 97.0b7 but didn't encounter any issues so far.

Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Testing with a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

Hi Andrei,

Thank you for the response. I had put Dev Edition on my current machine fairly recently, so I think that the profile was fairly new (1 month old). I started getting these issues since the latest major update (v97.0bx) back in the beginning of Jan 2022.

I have also tested using Safe Mode just now to see if there is any difference, but unfortunately it happened again. The problem is that I can't test it since after BSoD, I can't obtain any troubleshooting information.

I will try with Nightly build again and provide an update here.

If it would be helpful, here are my current machine specifications:
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19042) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
System Model: X399 AORUS Gaming 7
BIOS: F12g (type: UEFI)
Processor: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X 16-Core Processor (32 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 65536MB RAM
GFX1 Card name: AMD Radeon (TM) R7 360 Series
GFX2 Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

Thanks again.

I just tried with Firefox Nightly, and the same issue happened.

I am currently trying with Base Firefox 96.0.2 from Windows MSIX-package, just to confirm that indeed versions beyond v96 are the problem.

I think with the current updates 97.0b8+ I haven't experienced any issues so far. I assume that I have been running very resource heavy tasks on the machine that managed to break the normal flow of the machine, which affected the browser in some way, although I still didnt find a way to troubleshoot this.

As for now this bug can be closed. Thanks.

Based on comment 4, I will close this issue as WFM. Feel free to reopen it if the issue will occur again.
Thanks!
