User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:96.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/96.0
Steps to reproduce:
- I type a search query (or paste in a link) into the search bar.
- The "We just need to do one small thing to keep going." pops in.
- I click the "restart" button to reopen firefox, it promises to reload all my tabs.
- Other tabs reload, but My query is gone, forever.
Actual results:
The search query i entered last, (or the link I tried to open), is NOT restored upon restart. My progress (and/or precious time) is wasted. This occurs Every time and is driving me increasingly mad.
Expected results:
The address/link entered in the last tab should be saved&restored TOO. I mean the tab which shows "Sorry. We just need to do one small thing to keep going."

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Address Bar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hi Kaja,
Thanks for taking the time to report this issue.
From your description it seems like Firefox crashes, then afterwards you're able to restore your previous session with all the tabs, however, in the last tab where you've typed the query string or url, that specific query string and url is lost and no longer there even after the session restoration.
I'm not sure if this is an Address bar related problem. It might be due to Firefox::Sessions Restore?
What do you think, Drew?
Hi Mandy, thanks for checking on this report.
I observed no indications of a crash (but I have no proof of firefox NOT crashing either). As a side note, I remember than in the past year or so, the aforementioned Restart button indeed used to (always) crash the firefox (the app just died, and had to be launched again manually). But this is no longer the case at preset time. Recently, after each upgrade, when the Restart button pressed, the firefox is restarted automatically (as the button promises), so I wouldn't necessarily call it a "crash" (at least from my user perspective).
I'm not disputing your insight/opinion, just trying to provide as much info as possible.
Thanks again!

That's good additional info, Kaja. I might have been wrong to say that Firefox crashed in your situation.
If you're able to reproduce the problem, it would help us further if you can provide a screen shot or a video of the pop-up that says, "We just need to do one small thing to keep going".

Hi again, since this issue happens during version upgrade on background, I don't know how to reproduce it easily (without just waiting for new version of firefox). Can I force this upgrade somehow?
I just added few images to describe what I am talking about, not sure if those are of any help.
After the Restart Firefox is clicked, the window reopens, and all the other tabs are successfully restored, but without the "Net Tab".

Thanks Kaja, yes, this is the newish page Firefox shows when it updates itself in the background and needs to restart, and I agree this is a bug we should fix.

I think you were right to move this to Session Store. It might make sense in Address Bar too since that's the specific widget here, but Session Store is probably a better place since presumably session store is used in this case to restore on restart.
