Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016 When loading up certain usenet messages, instead of seeing text in the message window, the message pane is replaced with the Quicktime plugin; since the message is in fact plain text, the plugin displays a 'broken file' icon. 'View message source' shows normal headers and text, so text can be read with difficulty. Disabling plugins in mail & news from the preferences/advanced tab has no effect. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open newsgroups. 2. Select message such as 3DB053CA.49E3@alphalink.com.au or 3DAE8F6B.4D4C@alphalink.com.au (see details below) 3. open it... Actual Results: Broken Quicktime plugin displays. Expected Results: Show text of message... Quicktime 5.0.2 is installed. List of associated mime types sure doesn't appear to include text/plain... Message IDs of the particular bug-inducing messages I've found: Message-ID: <3DB053CA.49E3@alphalink.com.au> Message-ID: <3DAE8F6B.4D4C@alphalink.com.au> (and more) These are in group sci.lang; the offending messages include all posted by a 'Rob Bannister' and all by a 'Jacques Guy' from 10/16 on, but not those by the latter author from 10/15 and before. I tried loading the same messages via an alternate news server as well; same results. Also, here're a few that do not trigger the bug: Message-ID: <3DB0BC39.9752464F@it.net.au> Message-ID: <Xns92AAABEDB2BE6orangiemikeaolcom@66.75.162.196> Message-ID: <gsg1ru06in3gf6gdemnoa2virjfdta42fu@4ax.com> Message-ID: <3DAC35C5.2C48@guess.where> All the offending messages have mime types set (text/plain, with charset us-ascii or iso-8859-1); the offending messages were all posted by 3.x or 4.x versions of Netscape, though this is not exclusive; some messages that show up as text are similarly configured. Summary: Usenet text messages comes up as Quicktime plugin → Usenet text message comes up as Quicktime plugin
I see the same problem with 1.2b on WinME. More examples can be found in netscape.public.mozilla.mathml. I can't see any of the messeges posted by Rodger B. Sidje in that group.
Another data point; posts from 'Castor Quinn' in alt.language.artificial and 'Jim Breen' in sci.lang.japan are also showing up as quicktime for me. These aren't posted from old Netscape versions, so I guess that's not it.
