This is on macOS, haven't tried on Windows yet.
Swipe sideways until the arrow is 100% opaque indicating a history navigation would happen if you lifted your fingers, then swipe back just enough to lower the opacity below 100% and lift you fingers. Then swipe sideways again far enough to trigger the history navigation and lift your fingers. Maybe 33% of the time when I do this I can trigger a history navigation without seeing the arrows/animation.
Tested on latest nightly.

Marking as S3 for a behaviour that has been shipping on macOS for a long time.
If this is reproducible on Windows, we can consider separately if this should block releasing the feature there.
