RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 259059

People

(Reporter: td47, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0

Steps to reproduce:

Put caps lock on "accidentally" during log in to a site that is not in the password manager.

Actual results:

CAPS-LOCK is not indicated, in any tool-tip, or other UI indicator.

Expected results:

Ideally, there should be some sort of indicator, or hint, that the user has the CAPS-LOCK active, to prevent wrong password entries, leading to user account lockouts.
Is it possible that layout or toolkit developers can implement enough UI to let users know the state, if this can be applied or fixed in most cases?

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Layout' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Summary: Provide tooltip or UI indicator for CAPS-LOCK ON → Provide tooltip or UI indicator for CAPS-LOCK ON when entering a password
Version: Firefox 97 → Trunk

We think this should be addressed at the layout (or widget whichever is more appropriate) level so that all password fields would benefit from this change as well as have language associated with it so that localization works as expected with multi language setups. Maybe the language part should be a separate bug but I'm not sure at the moment.
