In Thunderbird Support Forum, when a person posts a Thunderbird Crash ID, it appears as a link.
See example:
https://crash-stats.thunderbird.net/report/bp-7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307

AS shown in this Support Forum question:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1370027#answer-1487852

When you click on that link in the Support Forum, the following page opens:
https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307
It says:

Crash Report Not Found
We couldn't find the crash report for the Crash ID you requested.
If you recently submitted this crash report, it may still be in the queue to be processed. Wait a few minutes and try reloading this page.
If this crash report is more than 6 months old, the data may have been removed from our system. We only retain crash reports for 6 months.
If you believe this message is an error, please submit a Bugzilla ticket describing what happened, and please include the URL for this page.

When the reporter posted that information, I received an email as I was following that question, which also had the Crash ID link:
https://crash-stats.thunderbird.net/report/bp-7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307
When I click on that link in the received email, it opens on this wepage:
https://crash-stats.thunderbird.net/report/bp-7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307
It displays the crash: Thunderbird 91.6.2 Crash Report [@ nsXPCWrappedJS::Release ]

Note all the links appear identical and seem to open on same webpage.
Problem: Crash ID links from Support Forum fail.

Thunderbird switched to a different crash ingestion system last year. Links for Thunderbird crashes should be updated accordingly.

Switching this over to SUMO.

Component: Webapp → General
Product: Socorro → support.mozilla.org

Thanks for moving to correct location.
Please note in the error website page:

If you believe this message is an error, please submit a Bugzilla ticket describing what happened, and please include the URL for this page.

Where it says 'Bugzilla ticket' this is a link and it auto opens here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Socorro&component=Webapp&bug_file_loc=https%3A%2F%2Fcrash-stats.mozilla.org%2Freport%2Findex%2F7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307

Could I ask for the 'Bugzilla ticket' link to be corrected accordingly.

Interesting idea! That page you're looking at is a page on the Crash Stats site and the link to creating a Bugzilla ticket is fine for most of the issues people are having when they click on that link. I'm ok with triaging the ones that aren't. Given that, I don't think it makes sense to update the link or the text at this time.

With Thunderbird back on Socorro, this should no longer be an issue

It's not resolved.
I'm using Firefox version 104.0 (64bit).
Go to this link which is in the Support forum:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1370027#answer-1487852

In that Support Question, the person posted a Thunderbird Crash ID, it appears as a link.
This is the link:
https://crash-stats.thunderbird.net/report/bp-7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307

When you go to the Support Forum and click on that link you get the Page not Found error.

If you click on that link from within this Bugzilla page then it works.
If you get an email from Support forum and you use Thunderbird to click on link in email then it works.
But it does not work with those links when posted into the Support Forum. That is the problem and it has not changed.

The problem is not with Thunderbird it is in the Support Forum.
If you ask person to post Crash id and they do, the links do not work, but only in the Support Forum.

Image shows at the top the 'Thunderbird Support Forum' question and crash id link.

Go to the Thunderbird Support Forum question and click on that crash id link.
You will notice that the link looks correct, but hover over each end and it appears as if it is in two parts

It opens 'Page not found' as shown in the mid section of image.
Note the pop up of address.

Go to the Thunderbird Support Forum question and hover over the left side of link and shows info in bottom status bar.

Page not found result.

Go to Thunderbird Support Forum question with crash id.
Hover over right side and notice it suddenly looks as if separated from the left side.
Click on link.
This time you get 'Crash report not found'

The link has gone to this:
https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307

So how can I use a workaround to get the crash id as supplied and posted in the Thunderbird Support Forum to open correctly, like it does from this bugzilla webpage.

Open the View Source of Thunderbird Support Forum Question.

Locate the Link which looks good.

Click on that link in the Source view and select to open in new window.

It has opened correctly - ok it is showing source view, but it is correct.

Now I edit the address - remove the first part - 'view-source:' from address and now you can see it is correct.

It should not be necessary to go through that performance in order to get the link to open correctly.

Opened web developer tools

This shows that same question and link.
Look at the section - class = content raw which I've highlighted.
This creates a link which looks visually correct in normal Thunderbird Support forum view but in reality it creates two incorrect links which can be detected by hovering over the right and left sides as shown in previous images.

The hover over right side produces the link which is clearly shown in the span 'crash report' - which is wrong.

the hover over left side is worse - it produces a link which starts with the 'content-raw' link and then has all the links contained in the 'crash-report' appended so it produces the example below.
https://crash-stats.thunderbird.net/report/%3Cspan%20class='crash-report'%3E%3Ca%20href='https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307'%20target='_blank'%3Ebp-7dee1000-6d2b-4485-b5ad-27de41220307%3C/a%3E%3Ca%20href='/kb/helping-crashes'%20target='_blank'%3E%3Cimg%20src='https://static-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/static/icon.questionmark.87bdf197be959219.png'%3E%3C/img%3E%3C/a%3E%3C/span%3E

Hopefully these images will explain what I'm trying to convey.

SUMO is seeing the bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxx string and incorrectly converting that to a link. The string is already part of a url, but SUMO doesn't recognize that so you end up with a text url that's split into two links. The first link is missing the crash id, so it returns a 404. The second link goes to a crash report submitted on 20220307 which is before we switched Thunderbird back to Socorro, so the data isn't in Crash Stats and thus that also gives a 404.

Thus there are two problems here:

  1. SUMO sees bp- and then converts that to a link even if it's already part of a url. It shouldn't do that.
  2. Crash Stats doesn't have crash reports that were submitted before the switch-over. This problem will go away as time passes without us doing anything, though it's pretty inconvenient now.

I wrote up bug #1786859 for fixing crash-stats.mozilla.COM to crash-stats.mozilla.ORG. Figured I'd fix that while I was looking at things.

THunderbird's non-mozilla crash stats no longer exists, so this is no longer relevant.
