Less than two days ago I noticed that stuff didn't pop up in the urlbar as it should have.
So I checked and my history was only 10000 items and it went back to early february*. A few hours ago about it was ~4400 now it's 4178, and it was 4273 a quarter hour ago. Seems like they're constantly removed. Now the oldest item is from march 02, less than two weeks ago. I'm used to having like half a year worth.
What the hell is going on? Why is Firefox expiring all my history?
I don't see any about:config items that control behavior anymore. I have a places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages item with a value of 150083. But I suspect it's an orphaned item.
Can the number of bookmarks increasing above some value cause a bug like this? Now I have a lot more bookmarks than history... 20000+
This may be the most toxic issue I ever encountered in Firefox.
*I resorted to searching for "." in the library window and selecting all to see the number of items and check the oldest. Since there are no more convenient addons to shoe me such data. And I know of no other way.

Please do not set priority and severity on bugs. Doing so may mean that your bug misses triage and then doesn't get looked at.

Oh well, probably of no significance, this will probably be duped to Bug 1753729, to which someone pointed me to.

this is indeed just the effect of us limiting the database size when available disk size is small, nowadays Firefox profile can take multiple GiB of space, so 800MiB is not enough.
Bug 1753729 should improve the situation by using a larger limit, but we'll keep limiting the size when disk doesn't have enough space.
You can override the limit setting the hidden places.history.expiration.max_pages
pref, though I really don't suggest doing it, as it may cause other problems and we would unlikely spend time fixing issues caused by hidden prefs.
