User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:98.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/98.0
Steps to reproduce:
Open TB 99.0b2 (64-bit), read IMAP mailbox. Some messages are corrupted.
Close TB, delete .msf files.
Reopen TB, messages are okay.
Wait a few days, problem reoccurs.
If I delete the .msf file, I lose the message field settings.
Actual results:
Clicking on a message shows the message, but, at the bottom some messages are many more messages, as if the message separators are missing.
Expected results:
It looks like the .msf file is getting corrupted because deleting it restores the messages from the IMAP server.

The problem seems to occur after resuming after suspend.

I'm getting the same thing, and not using suspend at all.

From reporter's comment 0:
Close TB, delete .msf files.
Did you also delete the mbox file ABC associated with ABC.msf ?
That may also be required to work around the problem.
From Robert Johnston's comment 2:

Are you seeing the problem only on Inbox? Also, did you also delete the file pairs ABC and ABC.msf?
I'm assuming the both commenters are using offline storage for imap (mbox or possibly maildir).

I deleted the account completely, removed it's associated mbox files, and re-created it. It downloads the messages from IMAP again, and they're all broken in the same way again.

I'm also seeing the problem on folders other than inbox.

Dear All,
having had the same problem, I like to add my experience in the hope it can be of help in solving this annoying issue.
I currently use the version of TB with these features:
Version 91.9.0
Build ID 20220502180952
Distribution ID
Update folder
C: \ ProgramData \ Mozilla \ updates \ D78BF5DD33499EC2
Update history
Output Update channel
User agent Mozilla / 5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv: 91.0) Gecko / 20100101 Firefox / 91.0 Thunderbird / 91.9.0
OS Windows_NT 10.0 19043
Application binary C: \ Program Files \ Mozilla Thunderbird \ thunderbird.exe
I noticed that when this happens, clicking on the header of the message does not show me the corresponding message but a different message or nothing, as if the message index was corrupted. Only a few messages close to each other in the INBOX are affected. This seems to happen when I move multiple messages, selected using the CTRL key, from the INBOX folder to a local folder. And maybe it happens only for an account on MS Outlook.
Even restarting the program the index remains corrupt.
I got the INBOX fixed by closing Thunderbird, accessing my Outlook account via a web interface, and then reopening Thunderbird again, without deleting any file.
Best regards,
Francesco

Francesco SM,
So you see this with the 91 release? I thought this only occurred with post-91 betas. By any chance have you run a post 91 beta and then moved back to a 91 release with the same profile? (This would probably require running with option --allow-downgrade
).
Anyhow, I tried what you suggested with an outlook imap account and don't see a problem in tb 102.a1 (a daily build) after moving messages to local folders.
I got the INBOX fixed by closing Thunderbird, accessing my Outlook account via a web interface, and then reopening Thunderbird again, without deleting any file.
Interesting, but don't see how this could fix the problem. Is this a reliable and repeatable solution?

Dear Gene Smith ad All,
yes, I am currently using Thunderbird 91.9 release version. No, I did not perform any downgrade. The Help menu-> info on Thunderbird say that mine is the updated version (maybe because I use the Italian Language?).
I have also to correct myself about the statement:
"I got the INBOX fixed by closing Thunderbird, accessing my Outlook account via a web interface, and then reopening Thunderbird again, without deleting any file."
Unfortunately, this is not really true, after the described operations I still have some messages corrupted (more messages appear condensed in a single, unformatted, one, as I was displaying the source text). Sorry for the incorrect info (however I am pretty sure that some messages got fixed... ).
Best regards,
Francesco

Steve, 102.0.3 should be better. What are your results?
Users on version 91 will want to seek support.

Maybe early incarnation of bug 1777738?
Hard to say without more information
