Setting the Record Type field to Read Only in the layout works in classic but the field is editable in Lightning.

This is problematic, because our CCADB workflow depends on the Record Type, so the Record Type should never be changed by a user.

Workaround: Use a validation rule to prevent changes on the field

The validation rules on all objects have been created and deployed in production. The users will not be allowed to make changes to Record Type field.
