Steps to reproduce:

Firefox 99 and nightly 100 and 101 has a font regression under KDE Plasma in Arch Linux.
Tested 101 nightly on Fedora Cinnamon rawhide and no such regression.
You can see the regression in attached screenshots.
I tried anything like changing the fonts , setting up new profile.
but nothing changed.

this regression is in both websites and all firefox's UI (settings, URL bar, etc.)
No such issue in firefox 98.

Like previous versions , a normal font viewing.

mozregression --good 98 -a about:support is done.

Tested about 10 builds, some of them was ok some of them not.

I reached with bad and good carefully.

This looks a lot like bug 1759667, and is (probably) the result of a badly-conceived fontconfig setting that prefixes Noto Color Emoji to all font-family requests. See bug 1759667 comment 12.

The issue resolved after removing the following lines from /etc/fonts/fonts.conf

That fontconfig snippet is asking for Noto Color Emoji to be inserted ahead of whatever other fonts are being requested; so because Firefox tries to respect your fontconfig settings, the emoji font then gets used for whatever characters it supports (which includes spaces, digits, etc) instead of the font that was really wanted.

Before bug 1756400 was fixed, Firefox was often confused by fontconfig rules like this and instead just ended up using a default font, which wasn't correct (specific font requests were getting ignored) but usually looked OK so the bug went unnoticed for a long time. The fix there made Firefox actually follow the fontconfig settings more fully, but that means this (bad) setting now causes problems.

Gah, just more example of those 'fixes' in the KDE Plasma fontconfig overrides breaking us because we try to respect the actual configuration. I gave up on trying to find anyone there to care for bug 1481545 too.
