RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1738574

People

(Reporter: vechenjivot, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:99.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In Settings, I have selected "Always ask you where to save files"
  2. In Settings, for zip files I have selected "Always ask"
  3. Last location that I downloaded a file to was Desktop directory
  4. I open a zip file from a web page
  5. Select to open it with 7-zip File Manager
  6. The file gets opened in 7-zip File Manager, but is also downloaded to my Desktop folder!

Actual results:

The file gets opened in 7-zip File Manager, but is also downloaded to my Desktop folder!

Expected results:

The file should have been downloaded to my %temp% directory, because I chose to open it and not download it.
This happens with all kinds of files I choose to open from Firefox.
My Desktop is now cluttered with hundreds of zip, torrent, txt, etc. files, which normally reside in the %temp% directory!

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::File Handling' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → File Handling

We're using the default downloads directory. Using tmp was (extensively) discussed in bug 1738574. There will be an update there "soon" about any future plans.

In the meantime, you can change the directory that is used by switching the radio control in settings from "always ask you where to save files" to the "Save files to" line, and then adjusting the directory to the one you want, then switching the radio control back. (The fact that you need to change the radio control is a separate bug which is tracked in bug 1762775)
