bug 1502867 did this in toolkit. Not sure why that is not carried through to mobile.

AIUI, the about:config UI that Fenix / GeckoView uses is a different implementation. I suspect it's this one: https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/rev/c7183440fe8ad391e2ab2e990229dd85fac318d3/mobile/android/chrome/geckoview/config.js#202-209

Ah! Right. For some reason I thought the implementation was the same.
I think in general we're not interested in improving the current about:config experience on Android, and all efforts should be devoted in making the Desktop about:config suitable for Android too so that we don't have a duplicate implementation.
Especially given that Fenix doesn't enable about:config on release.
