User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:99.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.0

Steps to reproduce:

A computer restart and then start the browser will lead to an empty bookmark toolbar that is unresponsive. This can sometimes happen just after a browser restart.

Actual results:

After starting firefox (after either a computer restart or sometimes a browser restart), the bookmark toolbar is empty and unresponsive (not possible to drag a new bookmark onto it for instance). It never reappears and I need to take measure to restore it (delete profile, sync or other ways).

Expected results:

Bookmark toolbar should've been displayed as usual and been working as normal.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Bookmarks & History' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Could you please run Integrity check from about:support Places Database section, and post here the resulting log from it?

Sorry about pasting it twice - it gave me an error message when entering the message, but apparently it seemed to add it. In any case, what you see above should be the places integrity check.

Ok, from the backend point of view everything looks ok.
Can you also reproduce the bug in troubleshoot mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode?redirectslug=troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode&redirectlocale=en-US

It's a bit hit or miss. I've seen it happen both ways. However, I just switched to troubleshooting mode and after perhaps 15 seconds or so, the bookmark toolbar populates with my bookmarks.

I switch back to normal mode and the same thing happened (this time - but not always).

I then closed Firefox and started it again and now the problem is back. The bookmark toolbar is empty again and unresponsive.

The severity field is not set for this bug.
:mak, could you have a look please?

Ok, we are not sure what may be causing this lag. There's still a couple things to try/understand:

  1. trying if a completely new profile shows the same 15s (or similar) long delay https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles
  2. if it also happens in a new profile, it's possible there's some third party interaction with Firefox files, I wonder which Security/AV software you have, and it may be useful to share info about that, if possible.

I've also tried to reproduce this bug, but I was not able to encounter it using Firefox 99.0, running Win 10 x64. Bookmark toolbar still works after a browser or an OS restart.

Øyvind, did you get the chance to look over what Marco asked in comment 10? Otherwise, I'm afraid we need to close this due to lack of response, or missing information.

Unfortunately without any more information, this is not actionable for us to proceed. Therefore I'm marking as incomplete. If you are able to provide the information requested, please feel free to re-open.
