Steps to reproduce

1. Launch Firefox
2. Go to www.youtube.com and open any video that supports Subtitles/closed captions(CC)
3. Click on the CC button
4. Open the video in PiP window
5. Double-click in the Pip window to enable fullscreen mode

Expected result

• Subtitles/closed captions(CC) should be working in fullscreen mode.

Actual Result

• Subtitles/closed captions(CC) are not displayed in fullscreen mode.

I'm not able to reproduce this on Windows; it could be Linux-only, or something else could be keeping it from happening for me, I'm not sure.

This issue only occurs in Wayland and it does not occur with xwayland!
It is not a recent regression.

For me the behavior is slightly different. It renders the subtitles but they will not be updated, so it shows the same line/sentence forever even though the video keeps playing.

I am also on Wayland.

Once the subtitles are displayed in the youtube player and PiP, and you double-click in PiP window to switch to full screen mode, in PiP the last subtitles displayed get stuck and appear as not updated.
Otherwise, when you switch to switch to full screen mode in PiP when there are no subtitles yet displayed in the youtube player and PiP window, no further subtitles are displayed.

The issues with subtitles not updating on Wayland seems similar to what is observed in Bug 1770429
