No right-click menu in personal toolbar folders.

If you right-click on a *link* on your personal toolbar, you get a menu (which
includes the choice 'Open in New Tab'). However, if you right-click on a link
in a *folder* on your personal toolbar, the menu does not appear. I would like
to be able to open any link on the personal toolbar in a new tab.

50504 (from 8/2000) seems to be concerned with the *bookmark manager*, not the
toolbar. But as long as 50504 was mentioned, it looks like the bookmark manager
was missed when it was time to add 'open in new tab' to the context menus.

I disagree: the description of bug 50507 states:
> "give him/her a context menu like the one in the bookmarks manager"
*like*!
and bug 50507 comment #24 :
> Urm, I belive the context menu of a bookmark item with*in* a bookmark menu
> should be consistent with the context menu of a bookmark item that's directly
> on the personal toolbar.
That's exactly what you ask for.
"Bookmarks menu" is not a very common way to describe the personal toolbar
folders, but that's what they mean. And what you mean.
-> Duplicate (IMO)

Sorry, in my last comment of course I meant bug 50504.
"bookmarks menus" might sound confusing there, because it sounds like the
"Bookmarks" menu (between "Go" and "Tools"), but I think from the Description
and comments it seems clear what the reporter wanted.

To clarify, I think the item reported in 50504 (hope I did
that right) is sort of the *reverse* of what I reported (in 176880). They
wanted the items in the 'Bookmarks' menu (between Go and Tools) to behave like
the items placed directly on the personal toolbar. That behavior is as I
reported: A user-placed single link on the personal toolbar (not within a
folder on the personal toolbar) actually gives you a context menu.
For this reason, I thought it was an oversight not to give the same context menu
for other links, in folders, on the same personal toolbar. With the option to
open the link in a new tab added, of course. :)
The *difference* between this and the item reported in 50504 is that they
are reporting that *no* context menu appears for items in the 'Bookmarks' menu
as they do for some items (links not in a folder) in the personal toolbar. I
was reporting that there should be a context menu for *all* links, whether in a
folder or not, on the personal toolbar. Further, I don't think there should be
context menus for main menu items.
In a nutshell, I want consistency *within* the personal toolbar. The other
person wanted consistency *between* the toolbar and the menu (50504, comment 24).
Also, the 'Bookmark Manager', a separate window displayed by pressing Ctrl+B,
seems to display a context menu for *every* item in it. The personal toolbar,
in addition to being docked beneath the main menu, is also contained in the
Bookmark Manager. In this context (arrrgghh!), every personal toolbar link has
a context menu (with no 'Open in New Tab' option).
I understand the importance of not reporting an item that's been reported
already -- I even checked before I reported this. Equally important is making
sure that an item does not get swept under the rug because it *seems similar* to
another item.
I hope it's clearer now.

Steve: To make that clear in the first place: I would also *really* like to see
items in Personal Toolbar Folders have a contect menu - just like you do.
But...
The description of bug 50504 says: "bookmark in *a* menu" and the bug is named:
"...for bookmarks menus".
As I understand it, it indicates that there are several such menus in the
Personal Toolbar. And that indicates that it really means bookmark folders
placed there. As you do.
However, I posted bug 50504 comment #38 to clearify things.
(FYI: yust type "bug xyz" and bugzilla will automatically make a link)

Let's not forget that bookmarks and bookmark folders (no matter where they
appear in the UI) are user-created and managed - as opposed to regular menus,
which are "managed" by Mozilla. Therefore, *any* bookmark folder should be
treated more like a directory than a menu.
Let us learn from MS Windows 98, where it became possible to edit *and* drag &
drop shortcuts anywhere within the START menu. That was a *huge* improvement to
the configurability of MS Windows's Start button.
Mozilla's bookmarks and bookmark folders should have a context menu *and* allow
drag & drop no matter where the bookmarks and bookmark folders appear in the UI
(i.e., Sidebar, Menu:"Bookmarks", Personal Toolbar "Bookmarks" folder, and
Personal Toolbar user-created folders for bookmarks).
Although Bookmarks folders look like menus (and programmatically, they may be
menus), but to the user they are *his* bookmarks *folders* (more like
directories and not like menus).
Proposed rule of thumb:
When there is a conflict between what seems technically logical/correct/easy and
what the user wants/expects, then the user's wants/needs are to be preferred.
The user could (nor should he) care less about what goes on behind the scene.

*** Bug 179072 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I'm posting a new bug but now there are now right-click menus on personal
toolbar links, let alone the folders. Seen with 1/22 builds.

Why not include all functionality of the bookmark manager in the personal
toolbar, and then get rid of the bookmark manager?

Probably a dupe of bug 59132, at least the (bitroted) patch there should fix it.
Re comment 10: Not everyone choose to show the personal toolbar.

Re comment 11: "Not everyone choose to show the personal toolbar."
Integrating the two is _not_ a bad idea - you could still edit bookmarks even
without displaying the toolbar.
