User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/100.0.4896.147 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
- Open an online PDF file in Firefox.
- Press "download" button.
Actual results:
A "Save As" dialog is shown (whether the default downloading directory is set or not).
Expected results:
An option specifying the default directory for the PDF file to be saved to could be added, so the user does not need to click "ok" every time when they want to save the PDF.
Another related issue could be found here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1760482 , which explains why the browser's default downloading directory setting could not be used here. It sounds reasonable, but there may also be many users (just like me) who expect the "save as" functionality behaves just like downloading other files.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::PDF Viewer' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I will set this enhancement as new so the engineering team could decide if they take in consideration changing this.

Given this is PDF-specific I think this should live in the PDF viewer component. But realistically, perhaps we should close this as wontfix?

Yeah, I think we don't want to overcomplicate things and multiply the size of the matrix of configuration options we want to support related to downloads.
