When I'm using IMAP with fastmail.fm and go to the "Sent Items" folder on the
server, the "Delete" button is always disabled, and I also can't move / drag &
drop the message into the Trash folder. It's weird, since I can move the
messages to any other folder.
In order to clean my sent folder I should either move the messages first to
someplace else, or do it using the web interface.
Yes, I have noticed this behavior with my FastMail account as well. The
permission in all the folders except the Inbox (IMAP) almost randomly change to
'Post' instead of 'Full Control.' All other email clients including OE and
Eudora does not have this problem. Since this is random, I am not sure that it
is always reproduceable. In fastmail's Forum, quite a few discussions on this
can be found (e.g.
http://www.emailaddresses.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8679&highlight=Mozilla)
It may be a duplicate of a previous bug 170597, and since the problem is
recurring, maybe the bug should be reopened.

I'm having the exact same problem with Mozilla 1.2.1. As far as I can tell the
bug is introduced in Mozilla 1.2, as I did not have the problem with the beta
for 1.2.

I have also started having this problem in 1.2.1. I went directly from 1.1 to
1.2.1, so I do not know if the short-lived 1.2 also had this problem. I had
tested betas of 1.2, and did not notice the problem there.
I am using Cyrus IMAP server 2.0.16. Other IMAP clients show no problems
deleting messages from any folder.
I have "When I delete a message" set to "Move it to the Trash Folder" ... and
even tho I can still delete from my INBOX, the deleted messages do NOT show up
in my Trash folder.
Also, I should note that this bug also prevents me from moving messages among my
folders. The "Move To" context menu is greyed out and dragging messages to
folders also does not work.

I tried to update from mozilla 1.1 to 1.2 and 1.2.1 on Linux, IMAP-Server is
SquirrelMail Version 1.2.6 and i have the same behaviour. Even if i make a fresh
install and when i add a new folder. And it does not happen with 1.1. My access
roles in Mozilla for my inbox is 'full control' and all subfolders have 'Post'.
But if i go to Account Preferences, Server Settigns, hit the Advanced button and
change the personal namespace entry, i could change the access roles. The
IMAP-Server set my personal namespace to "INBOX.". When i add "INBOX.subfolder1"
the access roles of subfolder1 changes from post to full control. But i have to
deselect the box 'Allow server top override..', so the server doesn't overrite
my namespaces.
I have a number of subfolders, so this solution is not very handy.
The access roles for INBOX and all subfolders on the IMAP server are all the
same and i have full control.

Short version: this works for me in Mozilla 1.7.3
Long and rambling version:
I tried to duplicate the steps in the first comment with Mozilla 1.4.1 (with a
fastmail.fm IMAP account). Deleting messages from "Sent Items" didn't work. The
Properties/Sharing tab only showed Post permissions every time I tried.
Then I opened the Mozilla 1.7.3 mail component with the same profile. The first
time I tried to open the folder, deleting didn't work, and I had only Post
permissions. After accessing the folder again, it started to work normally, and
I had Read, Write, Insert (Copy Into), Lookup, Set Read/Unread State, Delete
Messages, Create Subfolder and Post permissions (which seems to be correct).
After that, I tried the same profile with Mozilla 1.4.1. At first, I saw strange
INBOX^Sent and INBOX^Templates folders, which disappeared instantly. After that,
the old Mozilla worked okay, and it showed the right permissions. So it looks
like using 1.7.3 fixed the profile.
Finally, I tried if Mozilla 1.7.3 works right away with a fresh profile. It
does: I can delete messages normally from any folder. Thunderbird 0.8 works too.
It's possible that this was fixed in bug 217431. It looks a bit similar.
This bug is very old and seems to work in newer builds. Reporter, others, can
you still see this bug with Mozilla 1.7.3?
Might also be a dupe of bug 170597.

I don't see it anymore. I think the bug can be closed.
