But it looks the current nightly implementation is only on Windows. What is the plan for other desktop OSes?

It has been shipped on Android by default for years too. Linux has no good OS support, and macOS needs some love from a Mac dev. I don't think that blocks shipping at this point.
But ideally macOS should be supported too.
