The given url is a jpg which apparently displays fine in opera on linux and
windows, and in gimp; in a gdk-pixbuf-based app it displays poorly, but at least
it shows something. Mozilla doesn't display it at all, and simply says:
The image ... cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Compare bug 160453, bug 158697. and bug 164091, which all describe a similar
problem but with png instead of jpg.
Note that Mac Internet Explorer 5 (Mac OS 9) can't display the file either.
GraphicConverter has no problem ofcourse (as usual), and was able to save it in
a readable form (that's what that program is for). Do you want me to upload it,
to compare with the bad version?
NS 4.x shows it badly, but I was able to download it. ThumbsPlus shows that the
image is "JPEG compressed: Baseline" and of type "4-channel CMYK (8 bit
samples)" I'm guessing it's the 4-channel CMYK that's causing problems?
Here is another image that shows the problem... go to

http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA02884

and select JPEG for the image format and click on the image -- the true image is
shown (very, very briefly), then the message comes up.
Sorry... that was in Moz 1.1:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826
Isn't this bug a dupe of bug 121084 ?
This image (linuxidea1.jpg) is a 4 component jpeg
which we don't currently support (only 1 & 3, see
nsJPEGDecoder.cpp line 55). Looking into it.
